Introductory course in workshop balancing

The course is about workshop balancing with a special focus on Schenck balancing machines and is for those with little or no previous experience in the subject. The aim is to teach the basics of balancing through both theoretical and practical elements. The focus is on how and what to measure, what affects the result and what different methods are available for balancing. In the practical part, we carry out a number of measurements, correct imbalances and analyze these.

The goal is to give the participant comprehensive knowledge and confidence in using basic functions of a balancing machine, as well as gaining a good understanding of the subject of balancing and being able to practically handle the machine in a real application.

Course content

  • Define unbalance values ​​and units.
  • Review of the different types of unbalance
  • How unbalance is measured and corrected. Phase, time signal and FFT review.
  • Routines for correcting unbalance.
  • Calculation of acceptable residual unbalance.
  • ISO 1940 review.
  • Different types of rotors, rigid and flexible.
  • Practical measurements on our practice rigs.
